Manta to rescue in Christchurch

Postby 001 Neville » 05 Sep 2014, 22:48

While I was in Chch today, I also looked up an old chap who has a Manta hatchback that needs rescuing from his backyard :(

The car is under a carport, so not in direct weather, but has not moved since '92 apparently so is a bit of a mess! Still has rego on hold, but this car won't be back on the road judging from the bodywork. Apparently the engine is started occasionally, and runs strongly - but I didn't hear it myself so can't comment on that claim. The interior looked fairly clean, and seating too, with just the start of a speckling on the steering wheel. Not sure if that will show on the photos on my phone. Essentially the car has to go, or his son is going to drag it to the breakers for whatever he can get. Contact me for details.

Strangely enough, it's actually the car that was bought at the same time as the white one currently for sale on here. The owners were partners in a business and bought a Manta each at the same time.

Should be good for some parts at least. I didn't notice if the handbrake was on. Can you tell from the pics? Looks like it is :(

He seems to just want it gone so asked for offers ..... $100? The interior looks to be worth that at least. Not sure what else can be saved.

A shame it's so far away, it could have joined the Manta grave yard at my place.

You wouldn't want to pay to get this transported up to North Island, Derek.

Yeah your right there Neville, I would much rather be able to drive a car back from the South island and enjoy.

I have a 'A' frame specifically set up for the manta as I towed my red one up from Chch to here.

To be honest, I'm not sure if it would have been worth it, Steve. The car would possibly not have lasted the journey ;)

I've had a Dunedin member ask for details, so will see if he decides to proceed and update the thread.

More interested in the engine and interior to be honest, engine in the red one is just starting to 'clack' a tad and the seats are f...d.
Did bring spare interior out though so not a major, engine will be coming out I feel and a re fresh in order.

Think that would depend on how much, how I'd get her here etc etc...

No, Ryan went to check it out, but the seller decided to try and get more money for it. $1000 was too crazy a price for a rusty wreck!

I've not bothered to waste any more time on following it up. Not worth more than $200 for parts, if that!
