....in Vectra 2001 CD? I thought all 2.2 engines were camchain? Did Holden ever use one of their own?

I read there seemed to be the concerns about the chains breaking and wrecking the engine within certain age and engine numbers when I was deciding whether to get 1.8 or 2.2 Zafira.

I had the same confusion so looked into this a bit further

I believe the Holden Vectra 2.2 is cam belt, it turns out the 2.2 in these is a Holden only engine based on a stroked version of the 2.0L ECOTEC engine fitted to Aussie / NZ spec Vectra's

So this one on trade me will be cam belt.

Opel badged / imported cars with 2.2 engines will be Z22SE engines which are chain driven, all alloy engines, FWD specific design, not sure if the Z22SE engine was or is fitted in Zafira but I guess its easy to find out online.

The Z22SE is however fitted to the Holden Badged Astra G SRi (my car) which is not the same engine as the 2.2 in the Holden Vectra

The Z22SE chain break issue was addressed on the Holden NZ new Z22SE motors from what I can gather, that problem was picked up prior to introduction to NZ. But as a precautionary measure I always use engine oil flush and fully synthetic oil as the original problem stemmed from a potential blockage of an oil spray nozzle that lubricates the cam chain, the fix was to fit a bigger nozzle I believe.

Imported cars with Z22SE engines may not have had the fix and could have a potential cam chain lubrication problem.

Thanks Derek. I wondered if they had done something different!
