Club Meets - South Island

Postby 001 Neville » 25 Oct 2011, 23:03

I'm looking at some dates for a South Island meeting, based in Canterbury somewhere out of Christchurch.

Is Saturday 12th November too soon for people to plan to attend? 19th November? I'm booked up the following weekend of the Election. Going into December becomes difficult as the silly season cranks up (although the local Farmers store seems to have Christmas decorations up already! )

Karting?
A general car event already being held?
A convoy to, and then display at, a venue?
A rally/treasure hunt/quiz event?
Any combination of the above?
Anything else?

Feel free to organise a North Island meet if anyone is happy to organise something. I'm unlikely to get north before February next year, if at all, so if someone is prepared to do something earlier, it would be good to get new members along.

I will try to get to either of those dates 12th or 19th, and any of your suggestions of the layout of the day sound good too.

I'm not much help making decisions lol.

I can give the owner another call, but I'm not holding my breath as he seems to always have other things to do. Not sure if his business was wrecked or not, so perhaps worth a call.

Not much response at this stage to the idea of a club meet, so I guess it may not be worth doing anything before Christmas..... :?:

Good to hear you are still free, Beth  Unfortunately it looks like too few others are around, or interested at this stage to make it worthwhile :( Give me another 24hours to rustle up some more members - not everyone seems to check their emails, or answer them - and I'll make a final decision.

 Maybe I need to book everyone now for events in January and March....??? There was a GM club meeting in Chch area somewhere ... Corvettes?

I spoke to Tony with the DTM Omega and "car museum" yesterday. He has been affected for his business and his home, plus has had to move the cars from his museum into the next door building apparently. He said he is still happy to let us come along to look around them sometime, but he is thinking mid-January at this stage. Not sure if we can do anything to help at the museum, and didn't want to offer a club "hand" before checking with you all first.... what do you think?

Had to pull the plug on anything this weekend - not enough replies in time to get something sorted. I'm now committed elsewhere for next weekend so we will have to book further ahead for end January, say 28th.

Can South Island members please pencil that in your diaries, and see if we can get a decent turnout?
