Phil's Trip to Phillip Island Historics

Postby 014 Phil » 27 Mar 2011, 20:23

The NSW GTR & XU-1 Owners Club had a run to the Phiilip Island historics, which was on last weekend. The trip to & from the Island was very enjoyable. Thursday saw us travelling the Snowy Mountains Highway. Heaps of fun!!

Some photos from the drive down, taken by my co-driver.

The orange one in the middle is a rare Bathurst '72 model. It is owner by a local where we stayed & he came down for a chat when he saw us arrive.

We arrived on the Island on the Friday. At the track, we were in the expo centre, but not all members joined.

Sunday, we started out grouped outside the Expo Centre.

Some of us moved inside.

Some things never change...............

We were very disappointed to miss our on getting out onto the track for parade laps. Some consolation was my first ever ride in a Phase 3 Falcon. Good fun!!!

Again, another fantastic day, including catching up with some familiar faces, tempered by the disappointment of the STP car's demise.

Monday was the trip home.

We went via the property (Riverview) of a Holden collector. He's been collecting cars for 35 years, and now has 110 cars. Most require restoration, but he owns many with rare options combinations. It was amazing to see!!

Plenty of rain on the way home, but we were lucky as there was major flooding elsewhere.

You certainly have some fun trips away, Phil. Would be great to organise things like that over here. Thanks for the photos.

 All those Holdens in the paddock - is that where they live fulltime, or does the owner take them undercover when not on display

The old Holdens are kept in a big shed. We were very lucky that they were out on display for a fundraiser on the weekend, so they stayed out for us.

Yes, it was a very enjoyable trip. We've re-booked the accommodation for next year, so it will all happen again next year.

What an amazing collection of cars on display there. Those race cars are just fantastic to see, I thought a lot of those would be strictly museum pieces by now.

Why were you unable to get out on the track? (I may have missed the part where you said why)

I am happy to see those Holdens aren't left out in the weather full time.

It was a decision by the Clerk of Course that there were too many cars for the parade laps. We were last ones to be included, so first to be bumped out. Hopefully we'll get out there next year...........
