Opel Kapitän (Wood Gas Generator)

Body: Kapitän
Engine: 6-cylinder, 3.5-liter
Year: 1938

How it works:
A charcoal burner actually burns the gases produced by heated wood. The burner is a two part system: a closed chamber with chunks of wood in it, and a charcoal burner to heat the closed chamber and make the wood generate gases by a process called pyrolysis.

Flammable gases produced by pyrolysis are then routed to a carburetor of sorts, mixed with air, and burned in the engine’s combustion chambers. Once the wood in the closed chamber has produced gases and turned to charcoal, it is transferred to the charcoal burner to heat the next load of wood. Some charcoal-fueled cars were designed to be started on gasoline, and would then be switched to charcoal once the vehicle was underway.

A swiss Kadett C with the same system!

Irmscher GT (1988)

The Irmscher GT was a front-engined 2+2 coupe based on the floorpan of the Opel Omega. The engine was enlarged to 3.6 litres (6 cylinders) to give 197 bhp and drove through a special 5-speed gearbox. It's low drag (CD of 0.273 claimed) meant it was capable of a top speed of 152mph and a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds.

Lotus Senator ... already spoken about elsewhere on the Forum
Here is a one off Lotus Senator. The story goes that initially Opel had planned to use the Senator as the base car for the Lotus joint venture but this is a realisation of a model that never officially made it.

The Opel Vivaro Performance Concept (VPC) is a unique concept van based on the Opel Vivaro, with a remarkable appearance and a special paintjob in Arden Blue (known from Opels OPC-line). A limited edition of the Vivaro (100 vehicles) was put on the market based on the Opel Vivaro Performance Concept. The VPC derives from the extended Opel Vivaro with double cabin (L2). The Opel Vivaro VPC is powered by a 2.5-litre CDTi engine with 107 kW/146 hp, which fully complies with the Euro 4 emission standards and is equipped with a Diesel Particle Filter (DPF). Opel priced the Vivaro VPC at Euro 34,900 and was only available in The Netherlands.
