Hmmm, Looking at the details of that 1988 Astro Silver Omega 3000....surely the chassis number is written down incorrectly and the year of manufacture too??
All the Opel Omega 3000's I've ever seen have
WOL19H1000000 chassis numbers and not the "WO5" as written in that document above. You see....
WOL000019H1000000The first part is easy because the
"WOL" part of the chassis number are the 3 letters that are allocated specifically to all Vauxhall/Opel cars that are built in Europe. Its whats known as a vehicles World Manufacturer Identifier. To give you another example of this - Lotus assembled Lotus Carlton/Lotus Omega's have
"SCC" and genuine Irmscher GmbH built Irmscher Senator's/C40/C40E's have
"WJR" codes so Bitter GmbH built vehicles have
"WBJ" letters as their World Manufacturer Identifier at the start of their chassis codes.
WOL000019H1152583This
"000019" number is the GM code for the vehicles body type, which in this case means its a late 1980's and early 1990's Mk3 Carlton/Omega A four door saloon car.
WOL000019H1152583The next letter in the chassis sequence denotes the vehicles year of manufacture. All of our Carlton related date codes started on the 1st of October 1986 and this letter would then change after 30th September 1987 and repeat this pattern year after year. With Nik's Omega 3000 having a letter
"H" in this part of the code....It means that his Dad's old car was manufactured by Opel sometime after October 1986 but before 30th September 1987 when the code changed to a letter
"J" denouncing the official start of the 1988 build year.
WOL000019H11152583This next number or letter corresponds to the actual GM factory that the vehicle in question was manufactured. In our case, all Omega A's and Senator B's were made in Rüsselheim - Germany and the
"1" was the number given to this specific GM site.
WOL000019H11152583Finally with
"152583" we have come to the actual build number of the silver Opel Omega 3000. Unfortunately, This is not that easy to 100% date accurately because I have so far not been able to get anyone from Opel to share this factory specific vehicle information with me.
I'm very sorry for the long winded and complicated reply here but as far as I understand it, this Omega 3000 should have a
WOL000019H1152583 chassis number and the letter
"H" in this code means its a 1987 and not a 1988 example too!
