Opel to be reintroduced into NZ?

For non-technical car discussion and general banter and jokes. Keep it clean(ish).

Return to Australia now officially confirmed. :D NZ didn't get a mention, nor does it state how the cars will be sold - Holden or otherwise.

Have a contact for them? Would be quite keen to get in touch with someone, if they are in fact opening Opel Dealerships as opposed to selling under the existing Holden banner.

I'd do it too, then possibly get a transfer back to NZ if/when they begin selling them here.

I don't rate Australia though. Too many floods, fires and bugs for my liking. But I would go there for an opportunity at a dream job/company.

It's probably a good sign that it has gone live though, even if it is only re-directing at this stage.

I've registered on the Australian one already, just to see the updates as the come through. Unfortunately it wouldn't let me put a non-Australian address, so I had to put an invalid one in. :(

And thanks for the contact Mark, email sent. :D

LOL!

I've emailed today to the German Head of Communications to ask for clarification on the NZ situation. They may not be prepared to say anything, but worth a try

Received this today from Germany! :D

Dear Mr Cross,

Please allow me to answer your mail on behalf of Frau Dr. Wegerhoff.

We are very pleased with the positive reaction to our export plans and it is great to hear from Opel enthusiasts in New Zealand. We are planning to include your country into our Australian launch, however, it is a bit too early to talk about details. When setting up our distribution network we will look for the best and most suitable partners in the respective areas - be it a Holden dealer or not.

Thanks for your encouraging words. We will do our best to make Opel a success in Australia and New Zealand and will keep you updated about the progress.

All the best from Rüsselsheim

Ulrich Weber | Corporate Communications

That sounds very definite! Yay!

Thats good news alright, pretty much confirming the news that Opel is indeed coming to New Zealand.

Do you think it's ok to publicise it on a public forum? Obviously Opel hasn't gone public with the news yet, so are finalising something before they do and I would hate for us to be stepping on any toes.

Only down side to the above text is that they appear to only be seeking 'partners' for sales/distribution of the vehicles, so any of those who wish to work for Opel, will more than likely be out of luck, and rather applying for work with a dealership for another brand or brands.

I'd be surprised if Holden doesn't get it.

Fair point, Brad, but I don't reckon they have told me anything they wouldn't tell anyone else who asked.
