Well, tell yourself you're really saving money - driven sensibly, you should be getting an easy 35mpg around town and around 50 on the open road at 'semi-legal' speeds - trouble is it's so tempting to wind it out through the gears, now and then...

While the Calibra does return fantastic economy, it's no match for our Pulsar which is also boring enough to make you never bother with trying to ring it right out, and even if you do try it doesn't seem to use much if any more petrol.

But yeah Chad, you're on the right track. I don't think the Vectra will ever be a daily again, but I do intend on keeping it road legal at least for the next year or two, purely to cut down on towing expense and make it a little easier/cheaper to tune etc.

Looked under the Calibra yesterday and the dreaded CV boot failure had occured all over the under side of the car. :( I hate CV boots.

Called BNT automotive.... No Calibra CV boots listed, only joints.
Called a CV joint / boot specialist who claimed to have 'the largest range in NZ', no Calibras / c20xe Vectras listed at all!
Called my local Supercheap Auto, "yup how many you need" :D ordered a full set and they were delivered to the store within 3 hours.

Every time I have a bit of trouble finding the part I need, it always seems like Supercheap saves my bacon.

Um, maybe you should try there first in future and save yourself the hassle of speaking to the others

I've never found BNT particularly helpful.

I just get the universal ones for about $10 each. Have fit every car I've fitted them to so far.

I got mine from Repco.
Don't forget the special CV grease if you're cleaning and repacking - IIRC, it's a high Molybdemen Disuphate heavy grease - very messy, wear disposable gloves if possible!

Yeah $20 for the boot and I fitted it last night in 20minutes

To be honest mate I only use the baggies of molybdenum disulphate for greasing lug nuts :)

It's the 21st century and high temp grease has come a long way since that stuff was invented. When doing CV joints I use high grade PTFE based grease, it's bright red and if you stick your finger in it, it can leave a tack string over a metre long!

I swear by the stuff, had it in the vectra when I popped a CV boot on a ripple strip on Pukekohe track. Raced for the whole day and only noticed the mess at 4pm after quite a few 200KPh + runs round the oval
Funny thing was most of the grease stayed in the joint, it just wouldn't let go! Had I been using the old school Moly grease I'm damn sure the whole rig would have ceased

On another matter, I turned up to work in the Calibra today and the QA manager hopped out of his car, looked at the Cali and said "whats that pice of shit?"

I promptly told him to "fornicate with himself in the most inappropriate way possible". Well not in those words exactly. Was this the correct response do you think? The bastard.

"QA Manager" the job title says it all. :| he sounds like a "A Grade" asshole.

reckon I would have said "if I wanted to hear from an arsehole I would have farted"

what kind of car does he drive? just so I can get the full picture in my mind...bet he drives at 80k's and speeds up when he gets to passing lanes....

Imagine him saying same to Gordo if he rocked up in his Calibra

He drives an early 80's Mitsy L200 7 seater

I think I might stab him with my parker plaitnum. Nothing like a bit of office homocide.

It's funny driving a car like a Calibra. Just now I go off the phone to someone and he was saying it's "quite a retro looking thing". I don't know how to take that. Some people say it looks amazing, kind of BMW 850-esk, others laugh and say it's a girly wedge. Few do I even care what they think

I bet that guy drives a 2011 Ford Falcon XR6 and thinks it's awesome and unique some how. edit. loled a lot at L200!

On the flip side, I just walked into the lunch room and our pommy Production Engineer came scuttling up to me (yes he scuttled)

He says: "did I see you pull into the carpark in a Calibra?"
Me: "yes"
Him: "hell! I used to have one, bought it new, loved that car, I've never seen one in NewZealand, I also had a Mk3 cavalier before that"
Me: "I have two of those in the shed at home"
Him: " "

 8)

Well, Poms do like the Opel brand (over the Vauxhall brand), but we don't all scuttle!

Sounds like he might be a potential new Opel owner and Forum member. Invite him along, if you're happy to be building a connection there - doesn't sound like you're best mates already

some nerve having a crack at the Calibra when he drives a L200 Mitsi, he needs to have a good hard look at himself.

Calibra isn't a hair dressers car at all in my opinion, it looks a bit Japanese / American in my mind, very cool that there are not that many on the road either.
