Sorry Neville, I had forgotten about your Bitter addiction

Phil, have you still got a contact number for the mechanic to see if the Bitter is still in OZ? Chris was muttering about shipping it back to Switzerland since more people know what they are!

Someone bought his Bitter CD in Oz, so that is around somewhere if you hear of it for a potential member? .....

S'okay Alf. Steve is to blame  as he emailed me about a rhd 3.9 litre SC in the Midlands for sale

Great news Neville, the Bitter is still available.

Apparently the CD went to Western Australia, so I'll never get to see that one. :(

Just to continue the hijack of Alf's thread..... for Phil's interest... a Bitter CD based on the floorpan of the Opel Diplomat, with a Chev 327 V8 engine if I recall correctly?

Bitter SC and CD cars

Postby 014 Phil » 05 Aug 2010, 23:47

I had a long drive home from a meeting last night, so had time to ponder Bitters.

Came to the inevitable conclusion that although there's an SC less than two hours away, I don't need it, I can't afford it, and I don't have the space for it. (But it would be REALLY cool..................). I was also wondering what the relationship was between the CD & Diplomat,as I was aware that they both ran 327s. Thanks for clarifying that.

Now, I think I need to buy a lottery ticket!!

I like that you ponder Bitters while you drive.

And also, that 327 looks fantastic in that CD, and I bet it sounds the part in it too.

edited for whoops! :D

No, you don't! Remember you "haven't got space"????

Brad, the V8 is in the fastback CD which was produced '73-'79, while the SC was a saloon car based on the later Monza/Senator A floorpan with the same 3.0 straight six, or later on, a 3.9 straight six.

Not much resemblance is there, between the '72 Opel Diplomat (top) and the '73 - '79 Bitter CD???

Was originally a design exercise by Opel, called the CD, which was picked up by Erich Bitter with Opel's blessing

Yep, look like a whole different century apart, rather than a few years.

Yet there are some who love the old Diplomat - the guy who owned my Commodore also had a Diplomat until recently, which he has now sold to someone in Holland. He seemed to love the "Diplo" more than the Commodore.

At one stage (last year?), Andy down Wanganui way said there was a Diplomat here in NZ which was destined to be used for banger racing. He was trying to save it, but I've not heard anything more. Looks heavy enough to see off all competitors, but a shame for such an end.
