Insurance (Omega 3000 24v)

Postby 020 Brad » 11 Aug 2009, 20:04

So i have a house and contents policy with state so I had a quote through them, and also a quote through AA cover, as I thought they might be slightly more specialist - they were prepared to insure my work mates 1996 VW Golf VR6 for $10,000 !

Both only wish to insure my Omega for $2000, seeing that it is just a normal Omega. Now sure, I only paid that for it but I think I would struggle to find another, let alone one near the same condition or thats done the same or less k's (165,000).

I probably would have been alright with the figure had they recognised that an Omega 3000 was a different car to a regular Omega, but they don't do this nor does the fact its a 24 valve mean anything and yet adding VR6 to the end of a piece of crap golf seems to triple its value!!!

Which brings me to my question. Those of you who have insurance on your Opels that are worth the world to you, but yet aren't classic or recognised as being specialist vehicles. Who have you insured through and for what value? State were happy for me to have the car appraised and go by an approved fixed value, but I don't know any LMVD places that I could even go to that would recognise the silly little badge on the back.

I've been able to get my cars valued by a local dealer run by an Englishman who recognises the cars from his time in UK - 20 odd years ago. Insured with AMI for classic insurance.

There should be a Holden dealer in Hamilton/Auckland that were originally an Opel dealer....? Or failing that there is one in Napier  Can't help any more than that, sorry.

Thanks Neville.

I'm going to try Classic Cover today as they also insure rarer or "prestige" cars, lol, which isn't quite what my car is but hopefully they will see the light!

As far as Holden goes, I may try them but last time when I was asking for parts for a Manta, the guy looked like he was about to burst out laughing at me. Worth a shot though, as you say. Providing they can pull their red caps off for long enough to listen to me.
