Christchurch meet? 4 October?

Postby 001 Neville » 05 Sep 2014, 21:35

Hey guys, I was in Chch today, and called in to check out a car collection near the airport - the Stewart Collection. Got the contact details as the place was closed.

Have any of you been to see it already as it seems to only be open to groups. Who would be interested in a club meeting there on say 4th October if I can arrange it? We can go somewhere else afterwards, but apparently there's over 200 cars there from vintage to modern.

Confirmed so far from:
Myself
Jason
Lindsay/Karen?
Matt
Peter

I had a look through their about 3 years ago with a group of guys from work. There sure was a variety of cars to look at. Lots of 60's, 70's and some 80's English and Aussie cars and a few American stuff too. It's not to far from my place as well so you could come back for a cupa plus it's my birthday on the 4th of oct. I'm keen unless the missus has plans for me already for my b day.

Jason, that sounds good, and thanks for the offer..... as you say, provided your wife doesn't mind us descending on you, and she has no other plans! Happy birthday for the day anyway

Lindsay, yes I did try, but didn't get replies, so don't know if that was because people had been before, or just did not get round to replying! Maybe better luck this time

If the venue is the issue, we can go/do something else - I just need to know!

That's fine, Kelvin. We're not displaying for judging ;)

You still needing a replacement headlamp glass? Which side? I could bring it with me.

Hmm, still not much response. I'm sure it was a minimum of 10 people.

So what would members like to do instead? Road run/quiz? Join other events in Chch - if anyone knows of anything relevant?

Ken in Dunedin has suggested we might like to go to Ruapuna .....
I will be in Christchurch that weekend for car racing but it's
Saturday that we race so sunday would be better to check out the stewart
collection for me, regardless of the stewart collection we are doing hot laps
on friday night as part of the SIERDC series and thought If a club member
wanted to go for a ride for a donation to club funds, it could be good.

Also I might have a couple of spare tickets (again for a club donation) to
the endurance race on saturday, so If Stewart collection can only be seen on saturday,
then going to ruapuna for the endurance series after might be a great motoring weekend for the club.

The endurance series is now the the "endurance championship of new zealand"
and has cars like ferrari 360 modena and a 458 also many porsche gt3s ex
aussie v8 supercar a gt camaro out of germany its brand new ,corvettes,
world touring cars right down to us in the peugeot 106. I think they are
estimating 40plus cars in the 3 hour and possibly 50 in the one hour race.

Thanks Ken

Ruapuna is where I'll be on Saturday now too as I have been asked to audit some of the endurance cars.

Ok, well with numbers dropping for the Stewart Collection rather than increasing, I think I'll assume we'll leave that for another day..... possibly.

How about the Endurance racing at Ruapuna instead?

Sounds like a great idea to me Neville about meeting up at ruapuna. The field of cars and the racing should be good to watch as well.
