This was a nice looking GT which seemed to not last very long on the market? Anyone know what happened to them? Mainly for US market? What engine etc?

Really nice cars these. Shame we didn't get them in the UK. Not sure on engines but will find out.

Done some digging and forund this:

On February 1, 2006, Opel issued a press release announcing the upcoming production of a new Opel GT, as a likely 2007 model. The car shares the GM Kappa platform with the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky. Unlike its platform mates, the 2.0 L, 260 hp (194 kW; 264 PS) direct injection turbocharged Ecotec four-cylinder engine was the only engine offered. It also featured 18-inch alloy wheels and a folding cloth top similar to those found on the Solstice and the Sky. Since GM's Saturn division already shared models with Opel, the GT is in fact Opel's version of the Saturn Sky. The car replaced the Opel Speedster in the European lineup; however, it was not sold in right-hand drive in the UK, thus there is no replacement for the Vauxhall VX220. The situation is similar to Holden in Australia, as the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice had been produced at a North American plant, which does not have the necessary tooling for producing right-hand drive vehicles.

More details reveald that 7,519 were sold and it was also sold as the Saturn Sky and the Deawoo G2X.

Yep, found that on Wikipedia myself afterwards, thanks.

Beaut looking car. The original GT was only available as a LHD, but you would have thought these days that they would anticipate the need for tooling for RHD :(

From our YouTube channel featuring the GT I40 a one off Limited Edition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Irmscher in Germany.

The only other rare one was the Vauxhall concept one off called the VX Lightning which we use as our background image.

VX220/Speedster was not sold new here, but at least a couple have arrived as personal imports up in Auckland area.

That concept is about halfway between the Sky and the VX220!

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the pic's. Have got loads of them from Vauxhall and other media sources over the years in all differant sizes. Yes it is a great looking car and real pity that they didn't do more with it.

We have got six VX220's in NZ and Aussie as members, two VX220 Turbo's here and one very rare VXR220 Turbo. One of our members also owns the one and only black Opel Speedster here in NZ as well with the lift up Lambo doors. 8)

Most of our members cars car be seen on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1289962642 in our members cars album in the photos folder. There is about another 15 that we are still waiting for copies of to put in. :| We have about sixty members in total.

Our website is a bit of a let down at present but we are working on a new look site in the months ahead. We are spending most of our time now days on FB or YouTube.

Hope you enjoy some of the video's that we upload onto the VOS NZ YouTube channel. Don't forget there is a favorite video's playlist as well with some interesting stuff in there. :)

Cheers, Mark...
