More detail
The format for the day is:
Cars assemble from 9.30 onwards. Judging will start around 11am
The parade leaves the showgrounds, and follows a route around the river (only a single river due to road damage) and returns to the showgrounds. It takes about an hour to complete the course.
Prize giving at the showgrounds around 2.30.
There is live music and coffee and food stalls. A lot of people take a picnic. Probably some trade stands, but no autojumble at this stage.
We find that a lot of people go to look at the cars. This past year we counted 400 out of the showgrounds, but only 280 at halfway point on the run, and probably around 150 returning to the showgrounds.
With the current format, the cars on display are dependent on who turns up on the day. A lot of nice cars are owned by people who are not members of a car club, and we get a very wide range of cars entering.
We want to build up the static display to a more structured club based display, to cater for those who do not go in the classic car show. We anticipate between 6 and 12 cars per club, depending on club size, but can take any number if we know in advance. Next year will be our first year with this new format, and we hope to build from there.
The primary purpose of the event is to allow us, as Avonhead Rotary Club to raise funds for worthwhile charities.
