Bored in Christchurch !!!

Postby 183 Steve T » 11 Mar 2012, 17:56

Hi,
Some of you may remember, we emmigrated to NZ in October last year.
All good now have the residency Visa stamped into the Passports.
I am now working in Christchurch and flying back to Tauranga every two weeks or so, in the meantime I live in Riccarton.

For those of you who don't know me, I have built several Manta rally cars from scratch, restored a few road going Manta's and a Opel GT, which currently sits in the garage in Tauranga waiting to be finished.

Also built 3 BMW rally cars inc an E30 M3, A Toyota Celica ST165 GT4, 3 Escorts and been involved with rallying for 25+ years.
My current Manta 400r rally car is awaiting the call from here to come, just as soon as I have my own workshop ready in Tauranga.

Now, I was wondering if any one needed a hand with their respective Opel/Vauxhall or whatever projects in the evenings or at a weekend when I haven't flown home to Tauranga. I don't have any of my tools or equipment for obvious reasons but still have the hands at the end of the wrists and the knowledge locked in the grey matter..somewhere, can normally be persuaded out with a beer or two!!
Mobile number is
0210 437563

Regards

Steve

IIRC, you were wondering which, of your tasty collection, it would be worth importing.
Did you just decide on the Manta, selling off the rest, or are they also in the pipeline to come down?
there are quite a few guys who could benefit from your knowledge and experience but, unfortuanately, I think most of them would be rather out of your way.

Hi Steve
bit of a bugger your so far away, I would welcome any assistance, the hands on the end of my arms are all battered and bruised after knocking off the half shaft bearings tonight.
plenty of cold beer in my fridge if your ever in the area and want to drop in for a beer and a chat
hope the work situation is good and your adapting to the local construction ways...took me a while

Hi Derek,

Funny enough I looked at that last night, not a bad conversion.

I used BMW E30 front vented discs and Willwood 4 pot calipers on my rally car.
Also same discs with BMW sliders work as well.
I made a custom 7mm bracket and welded it to the square flange on the axle and then bolted the calipers to it, but presumably you need calipers with a handbrake fitment which is why the Audi ones work from memory

I have brought my Opel GT and will be bringing my Rally car, which is still being finished off by Mick and Ryan at Wizbang fabrication.

You should get to see Jim's GT on Saturday, Steve, that he is in the process of rebuilding, so there may be some potential for input there if you are interested? He also has several other Opels he would like to move on, so you might even find yourself a new project to keep you occupied ... just don't tell Marilyn!
