Car shows - North Island, 12 Feb and 26 Feb

Postby 001 Neville » 28 Dec 2011, 23:28

Vauxhall -Opel Sport (VOSNZ) is a club in the North Island that the OpelForum has a good relationship with, since Mark Anderson and Ashley Jones are also members of the Forum. Some Forum members are already members of VOSNZ too.

The latest meeting news from VOSNZ includes the following:
We have got a few more events lined up for next year starting with Ellerslie on the 12th Feb, 2012. Two weeks later we are going to a whole new location for the Galaxy of Cars on the 26th Feb. We would really like to see as many of you there as possible. If any of you have any ideas for these shows to make them better, please let me know you thoughts? It is a long day sitting around for hour after hour, but it is only once or twice a year.

Just a quick reminder to the new members that to comply for a Vauxhall or Opel trophy at the GM Day Out, your car must be registered and badged as a Vauxhall or an Opel. This makes it fair for those other members that do have these models there on the day and it complies with the rules of the hosting club. Yes we all know that they are the same thing with a different badge etc... but some of us have spent a lot of money over the years to obtain the real thing from overseas!

I am thinking about organising a club trophy for each of the shows that we do so that all the cars that turn up on the day will be eligible? We would then draw a name out of the hat as a winner. The winner of that show trophy would keep it for one year until the same show the following year. What do you think?

OpelForum members are invited to attend either or both these events with VOSNZ, representing the OpelForum. Stickers for rear windows are available from me, and I hope to attend one of them myself. Failing that, if one of you would be prepared to receive and display some OpelForum display signage to put out, that would be appreciated!

With the media news that Opel is being relaunched as a brand in Australia, and shortly in NZ, the interest should hopefully be greater in our terrific cars of all ages!

Who is up for Ellerslie this year then?

We have a couple of long weekends coming up here in Auckland, so time to get polishing!

I wouldn't bother showing the Vectra or the Calibra, that said with enough time on the polisher I could probably get the Calibra to shine up nicely, the Vectra has seen one too many gravel traps though. Would be happy to attend however. :D

Awesome! It will be great to have a Vectra there. :)

We have a meeting place for those attending Ellerslie - 8.00am at Wendy's, 620 Great South Road, Greenlane South. That way we all drive in together, and you get the appropriate pass to get in as an exhibitor.

Guys, I need an honest opinion.
Considering that my time and cash has been invested in my house build I havn't been able to get the Vectra to the finish that it requires. Should I bring it along on sunday to enter in the exhibition as an on-going project, or should I just bring myself along?

This is how it looks at the moment:

Hi, Chad. As far as I know the cars do not need to be concours to be shown. Mark will be able to confirm, but I think it was mentioned in a previous show thread - last year?

If the front bumper was hanging off, and some panels/patches in primer, then I would say there could be a problem - but yours looks great to me! Take it for sure!

Thanks for the kind words Neville, the car as it is now is a source of unhappiness for me at the moment considering how long it's been since I've paid 'propper' attention to it.

Mark has a lot of experience exhibiting in these events so hopefully he can provide some guidance. I know Mark's automotive tastes do differ slightly from mine, but he is the one who is running this outing so he really should have final say on what vehicles he'd like to have displayed.

More than happy to have it there. It is just a club display. Was hoping to have Jen's Calibra there as well, but she seems to have done a runner. Have any of you heard from her? I have a bad feeling that they won't register it for the road? Had a mate in the UK that got the ok to bring in his Calibra V6 4X4 prototype from Courtenay Sport and then when it got here they wouldn't allow it on the road. He tried a couple of options, but of no luck, so he shipped it back over there. :(
She may suprise us and just turn up on the day, but i'm not counting on it. :| Cheers, Mark...

Good seeing the cars there ..... but where's the rest of the event? Looks like you guys were the only ones there? No other cars beside/behind or around :?

If I rotated the camera 180degrees you will have seen it. 70 car clubs represented and 20,000 people viewing them. I have photos of the rest of the show, I can upload them later?
