I understand there was one of these in the North Island near Tauranga at one stage, which the owner was planning to go off banger racing ..... so it may well be wrecked by now

I have not seen one in NZ but a few were sold UK new - One turned up in Autocar magazine in 1970 owned by a local GM dealer ..Later In Your Classic in 1991 a similar car was profiled but I would say most big cars in the UK have since been Banger Raced
I heard of an ulta rare Ambulance version been banger raced in Holland!
In the Banger Racing scene there are prizes to find the rarelist and last car in the UK - Totally Frightful - I for one am hoping that with increasing Health and Safety requirements that the scene will be no more!

It was Andrew who mentioned the car was there, when he lived in Wanganui.

Found evidence of a former Diplomat V8 in the UK that is no more as currently documenting Aug 1999 Practical Classics in my massive off line database

(I have documented most of the Practical Classic magazines from cover to cover 1982-Aug 1999 ..so if you need any references regarding cars which include Opels you know where to come..)
there there Ford Capri Feature which mentions a brief bio with a Ford Capri Custom enthusist who admits getting a Opel Diplomat in the 1980s and using front grill and lights on a Ford Capri Mk1 - Yee Gods there is a photo ..and it looks bloody ugly ..what a waste I guess the remains got scrapped... :(
