Thought i will carry on here with the progress of repairing my astra's 2.2 engine following the timing chain failure in december last year. Have removed the cylinder head and as can be expected i found some of the valves bent. Ordered parts from the UK which eventually arrived, so the top section rebuild began.

New valves and stem seals going in after the cleaning and inspection. Could not see any cracked valve guides ( did not use a magnifying glass )

So, with the new valves lapped in the head was prepped to go back on using the new gasket set and head bolts. First i vacuum'd the cylinder block and pistons to get rid of debris.

Assembly started early this morning. Finished the cylinder head installation and then started with the chain install. All went well.

So after a whole day's assembly she was ready. Filled up with castrol gtx and anti freeze coolant. I left the spark plugs and spark module out and swung the starter a couple of times to get the oil and coolant circulating and the fitted the plugs and module back. She started without hesitation and is running smoothly! :D

Took her for a drive and the power and torque is phenominal!

Gave her a nice foam bath afterwards and tucked her away in the garage.

I must say, now i know these z22se engines quite well. :)

Well done! Didn't take long either, once you got the parts together.

I'm about to tackle a timing belt job on a V6, hopefully it is as successful as this job was.

Thanks Brad, i am sure your belt change will go well. Its always rewarding hearing the engine running smoothly after critical work like this.

Enjoy. :)
