TPS and fuel rail needed.

Postby 127 Gordo » 09 Oct 2013, 01:59

Borrow or buy if reasonably cheap.

Throttle Position Sensor for C20XE. I was doing some reworking of a spare airbox and TB (opening up, thinnned spindles, etc) and decided to check the TPS and it's playing up - may be largely responsible for the flatness (leaning out) towards full throttle.

Fuel pressure regulator (or complete fuel rail) for the XE with the 2.8 Motronics - this is the later version and has slightly higher fuel pressure (3 BAR Vs 2.5) - I want to check if more fuelling will reduce the leaning out.

The reworking seems to have made a difference to the midrange, but haven't driven it enough to be sure - certainly pulling through the steering more in 2nd gear as there's slight traction loss.

I have the only M2.8 C20XE that I've seen in NZ. Probably the only one in the country considering it was a private import. I can scrounge the fuel rail with FPS fitted for you, but I'm using the injectors. I only have a spare M2.8 TPS which is not compatible with the Bosch M2.5 so sorry about that one. Also I saw your uncle today.

I assume you mean Jock (my other NZ uncle lives in the BoP), a little surprised your work allowed the overlap - how was he looking, he's been rather ill recently?

Double checking if it's a fueling issue is the main concern and I figure increasing the pressure is the easiest way to check - definitely lean at the last dyno day and it seems to kick in when the TPS switches to the map - if I understand it correctly. I've got a steady 2.5 bar under all load conditions, so can't see it being a supply problem and swapped out the injectors for recently cleaned ones with no change.
I' was also under the impression the TPS was different from the 2.5 to the 2.8, but on Ebay they have the same one listed from 90-98 (IIRC) for the Calibra.

Regardless, if I can try the rail - I don't need the injectors 8) - some time it'd be sweet and maybe the TPS. I should have a spare of the latter, but can't find it and hadn't checked it when removed from the spare TB, damnit.

Yes it was Jock, I work at Methven and we use a lot of seals, obviously he deals in seals so there's the overlap. He's looking rather well to be honest.

Th M2.8 TPS has an extra pin on the plug and more sensing positions than the M2.5 version. So they really are not cross compatible.

Yup, he's the seal man - arf, arf

Found the spare TPS as I was having a tidy up in the garage - although some may call it a 'moving crap around' - and it tests out perfectly. I'll be trying it out over the next few days, I need to swap out the CTS and lambda as well, so it can wait for the next fine day - not like I'm using it much.

I think that LHD Astra that was for sale down south was a CAS motor also.

Gordon, I've just found another M2.5 TPS after cleaning out the shed yesterday. Yours if you still want it, I've also found the 3Bar fuel rail and regulator. Drop by and grab them some time?

Thanks, Chad, I'll see if i can get out Sunday, if that's OK - at this point, just need the 2.8 rail for testing.
I need to check the front end for a severe shake under braking first, though - hope it isn't another wishbone cracking up.
I'll give you a call before heading out, if it's OK.
