WANTED: C20XE CAMS

Postby 232 Adrian M » 29 Jul 2012, 21:05

Hi There...

Can anyone please supply a pair of s/h performance cams (anything considered mild/fast road)

OR

a Standard Inlet cam for a C20XE redtop? (not the prefered option but would consider it)

It is for my Calibra 16v...

I bought the car as a project with a stuffed motor and the end of the inlet cam where the locator pin is pressed in has sheared across the hole and the pin is loose... dont wanna risk a head rebuild and leave this as it is.

Thanks and regards

Adrian

Stock cam's will probably be your only option in NZ.
While I've a spare inlet, it's in an engine under a pile of other stuff - you'd probably get one from Chad or Brad, as I think they've already got them out of the engines.
Lucky it's an inlet, as they're the same for the early and late engines.

other option is to look overseas and, TBH, it would probably be better to buy new, as you may not get what you think you are on E-bay.
have you tried asking on the MIG site?

I do have one spare set, but it's in very nice condition (out of my low K's motor) and I don't really want to part with it sorry :? .

Hi Gordo and Chad...

Thanks for the reply... I have been looking on eBay and came to a deal with one guy but he has pulled out!.. not cricket really!! :(

I might just try and persuade you with money and beer to pull out that spare inlet you have???? :)

Haven't signed up to MIG yet... another option I guess.. so cheers for the heads-up.

Just so you guys know i'm no 'johnny-come-lately' I have owned lots of Vauxhalls over the years.. including Mk 1 Astra's (1.6SR and 2L GTE), A couple of Calibra's (the last one in the UK being a DTM Edition 4x4 Turbo)... Currently have Cali as a project and Vectra 'A' with 292,000km's on it.. starts every time!!.. makes you wonder who won the war!! LOL

Cheers for now

Probably the Japanese :P

There was a Calibra at a local pick a part a couple of weeks back but I've been overseas, so didn't get a chance to nab any parts. It doesn't appear to still be there but I'll go double check this weekend and grab the head/cams if it/they are still there.

Suggest you look at Catcams.co.uk

I have them fitted into my rally car which has a 2.4CIH with a 24v cylinder head chopped to 16v on it.
Really good cams, not that I have my car here yet though!!!

95% sure that Chad is using their mild cam's and has been very happy with them - the pistons don't need notching deeper.

I am actually using these fast road cams:

However, yes, I am very happy with them. On a single throttle setup they produce a rather lumpy idle which smoothens out with quad throttles. The most noticable improvement is in the torque which comes on stronger from 4000RPM than the stock cams, which makes the motor very flexible especially on hills.

Went and had a look during my [early] lunch break and unfortunately it appears to be gone already. There was no sign of it in the crushing pile and there are other cars that are still there that were there before the Calibra arrived, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone might have purchased it off the yard, if you can do such a thing. Would be nice if the engine and other parts have gone to a good home where they will be utilised.
